The Sharps/Splash Process

Following First Aid

  • Identify the source, fluid and cause of the injury.
  • Inform the person in charge of the incident
  • Health care professional/medical team to consent and take bloods from source patient:

-      Hepatitis B surface Antigen, Hepatitis C Antibodies & HIV Antigens/Antibodies

-      ‘Source Patient Information & Consent’ and ‘Source Patient Assessment Leaflets’ are available in the Sharps Injury/Splash Incident Policy or via sharps resources section (link provided below)

  • Telephone Occupational Health - Mon - Fri    08:30 - 16:30
  • Complete Datix (Incident Form) Intranet Home Page Icon:
  • Out of hours: Report to Emergency Department and notify Occupational Health the next working day
